State law and guidance
Idaho SB1227, effective July 1, 2026, instructs districts and public charter schools to adopt generative-AI policies aligned with a statewide framework. It also directs the state education department to prepare guidance for parents and guardians. A family should seek its district or charter's actual policy; a parent's receipt of guidance is not the same legal event as consenting to a child's use. Students and teachers need the local assignment and tool rules; administrators need evidence that their policy aligns with the framework. [17]
